One identifying document (ID) is required if you intend to travel overseas, and that document is your passport. You must take this travel document with you wherever you go because it serves as proof of your identity and citizenship.
In the Philippine, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is responsible for passport issuance. Your passport is valid for 10 years if you are 18 years of age or older. It will be good for five years if you’re under the age of 18.
Even though applying for or renewing a passport is straightforward, it’s simple to overlook one or two steps if you are unaware of the prerequisites. You can use this manual to follow the prerequisites and steps for applying for or renewing your DFA passport.
Requirements for Passport Renewal.
Adult Candidates.
Only if you intend to travel is it required to renew your passport. You don’t need to have your passport renewed each time it expires unless you frequently go abroad or want to use it as your main form of identification.
The DFA advises possessing a passport that is at least seven to eight months old before your intended departure date. That can need you to renew your passport at least 10 months before it expires.
The following are the prerequisites for DFA passport renewal applications:
• A well executed application form
• A copy of the data page and a current ePassport
• The following documentation is required of married female applicants who have changed their last name:
- Marriage license with PSA authentication
- Birth record with annotations PSA
- PSA marriage certificate with annotations indicating annulment, divorce, or court-ordered instructions
- PSA death certificate of your spouse, if appropriate
- However, you are not needed to produce a marriage certificate if you chose to keep your maiden name.
Nevertheless, you can be asked to complete extra DFA passport renewal criteria.
Minor Candidates.
Minor candidates must schedule an online appointment with the DFA prior to beginning the renewal procedure, just like adult applicants must. 7-year-olds and younger minors must be accompanied by either their parents, legal guardians, or authorized representatives.
The following are the documentation requirements for applicants under the age of 18:
- On the day of the appointment, you must produce both the original and a copy of the relevant identification documents. Additionally, be ready in case the DFA asks more supporting documentation.
- Use your host country’s government-issued IDs, such as your residence card, to prove your Philippine citizenship when renewing your passport abroad.
